KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Kansas City Royals trailed the White Sox by three runs heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, but home runs from Hunter Renfroe and MJ Melendez gave KC the lead on the way to a 5-3 win over Chicago.

With the Sunday victory, Kansas City completed a four-game sweep against the White Sox to improve to 6-4 on the year.

On the hill, John Schreiber earned the win for the Royals. He was the third pitcher of the day at Kauffman Stadium, but didn't allow any runs in his one inning of work. He did allow just one hit and notched one strikeout.

Alec Marsh got the start for KC on the bump and went 4.2 innings for skipper Matt Quatraro. He allowed all three of Chicago's runs on eight hits.

The bats came alive when they needed to, as Renfroe hit a home run in the fifth inning to make it a one run game. Two innings later, Melendez knocked out his third homer of the season for the first lead of the day, 4-3.

In the same inning as Melendez's home run, Kyle Isbel reached on an infield single to score Freddy Fermin and make it a two-run ball game.

Up next - Kansas City will host the Houston Astros at Kauffman Stadium on Tuesday, April 9. First pitch is slated for 6:40 p.m.
