Mizzou gymnastics’ season ends at NCAA Regional Final
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (KMIZ)
The No. 13 Mizzou gymnastics team's season came to an end with a third place finishing at the NCAA Gainesville Regional Final on Sunday afternoon. It was the fourth-straight year that MU had advanced to a Regional Final.
The Tigers were edged out by No. 4 Florida, who won the region overall, and No. 5 Utah, despite scoring a 197.325 at Exatech Arena at Stephen O'Connell Center.
The Tigers opened up strong on the floor, as the lineup delivered a 49.525 team score at the end of the rotation. Freshman Kennedy Griffin led the charge with a 9.950, while veteran Sienna Schrieber, freshman Hannah Horton and junior Amari Celestine pitched a trio of 9.900s.
Griffin earned a share of the event title on the floor, in a five-way tie.
On the vault, Mizzou managed to hold on to its second place positioning, as all MU gymnasts scored a 9.8 or higher.
However, Utah managed to tie it up with the Tigers through the third rotation, on the bars. Seniors Amaya Marshall and Mara Titarsolej were the event leaders, each scoring a pair of 9.875s in their performances, but the Utes still managed to close in.
Mizzou recorded a team score of 49.250 on the vault, which was the final rotation, but it was not enough to stop Utah from taking the spot in the NCAA Championship Semifinals. Schrieber closed out her MU career with a 9.950, which was enough to earn a share of the event title.
Up next - Mizzou will wait to learn their fate for individual qualifiers for the NCAA Championship Semifinal on Monday, April 8.
