LOS ANGELES, Calif. (KMIZ)

The St. Louis Cardinals had a two-run lead heading into the bottom of the eighth, but home runs from Teoscar Hernandez and Max Muncy sealed a late-inning comeback to hand the red birds a 5-4 loss at Dodger Stadium on Sunday night.

St. Louis actually carried a 4-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning, but the Los Angeles offense woke up. Hernandez got the Dodgers on the board with an RBI double to left field and his team ended the sixth with a sacrifice grounder to cut the deficit in half.

There was no more action until the eighth inning, when the Dodgers made their final strike. Hernandez lifted up his third home run of the season to make it a one-run game, 4-3. Then, just batters later, Max Muncy called ball game with a go-ahead two-run homer to give Los Angeles its first lead of the game.

John King was handed the loss on the hill for STL. He pitched 0.2 innings of relief, allowing one earned run.

It was a disappointing end to a solid start for the Cardinal offense. Rookie Victor Scott II led the charge at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, while Brendan Donovan and Paul Goldschmidt each registered two RBI.

Up next - St. Louis will continue the West Coast road trip with a stop Petco Park. The Cardinals and the Padres will start up a series on Monday, April 1 at 8:40 p.m.
