Mizzou softball ends East Coast trip 4-0 with Saturday win over Villanova
VILLANOVA, Pa. (KMIZ)
The No. 12/13 Mizzou softball team improved to 29-7 overall in 2024 with a four-game road trip out to the East Coast. Head coach Larissa Anderson and company capped off the perfect week with a 7-0 win over Villanova on Saturday morning.
With the win over the Wildcats, MU outscored its opponents 40-3 on the four-game road swing and won two of those games in run-rule fashion.
Shortstop Jenna Laird led the attack at the dish for the Tigers. The senior went 2-for-3 with aa run, RBI and a walk, as Mizzou jumped out to a 3-0 lead early with some good base running.
Five Tigers tallied an RBI on Saturday, including designated player Stefania Abruscato, who belted her first-career home run in the sixth inning.
In the circle, the Mizzou pitching staff limited the Wildcats to no runs on seven hits. Sophomore Cierra Harrison got the start and went three innings deep with three strikeouts and just four hits allowed.
Pitcher Marissa McCann claimed her sixth win of the season, though, as the freshman threw for three innings and sat down three batters, allowing just two hits. McCann is now 6-1 over in her debut year in Columbia.
Closer Taylor Pannell came in in the seventh inning and tallied two strikeouts, giving up just one hit and a walk to get MU over the finish line for the victory.
Up next - No. 12/13 Mizzou softball will return home for some midweek action against Southeast Missouri State on Wednesday, April 3. It will be a doubleheader with the first game starting at 4 p.m. and second at approximately 6:30 p.m.
