Mizzou gets swept by Vanderbilt, falls to 10-18 overall
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (KMIZ)
The Mizzou baseball team could not salvage the series finale against No. 7 Vanderbilt on Saturday. Despite shutting out the the Commodores for the last seven innings, the Tigers fell 3-1 to go 0-3 overall in Nashville.
A three-run first inning from Vanderbilt was all it took, offensively. Other than the shot to the left field corner that plated those three runs, Mizzou pitcher Javyn Pimental had a relatively strong outing on the hill. He allowed just two hits over his four innings of action, while the duo of Bryce Mayer and Ryan Magdic blanked Vandy for the remaining five innings.
The Vanderbilt pitching staff put up, yet another, strong performance, as well. Carter Holton improved to 4-0 on the season with an eight-strikeout outing, holding head coach Kerrick Jackson and company to a single run on five hits over 7.0 innings.
The MU offense finally broke through to cut the deficit to two runs in the fourth inning, courtesy of back-to-back two-out singles from Kaden Peer and Justin Colon. Colon's hit plated Mizzou's first earned run of the series.
With the three-straight losses at Vanderbilt, Mizzou is 10-18 overall and 1-8 in SEC play.
Up next - Mizzou will return to Taylor Stadium to open a two-game non-conference series against UT Martin on Tuesday, April 2 at 6 p.m.
