Pitching struggles result in Mizzou rivalry loss to Illinois

SAUGET, Ill. (KMIZ)

The Mizzou baseball team dropped to 10-15 overall in 2024 with an 11-3 loss in Braggin' Rights action against Illinois on Tuesday night.

The Tigers and the Fighting Illini actually each finished the game with nine hits apiece, but MU struggled to capitalize with runners in scoring position, going just 2-for-12 in those situations.

Pitching presented the real challenge, however. Josh McDevittt got the start on the hill and got charged with his first loss of the season. The right handed pitcher only lasted a little more than two innings, allowing six earned runs on five hits.

Five more pitchers came in in relief, on Tuesday, allowing Illinois to score a combined five more earned runs.

Sophomore Jackson Beaman was the only Tiger to drive in a run against the Fighting Illini. He finished with the team-high two RBI. Mizzou's only other run came in on a wild pitch from Illinois.

Up next - Mizzou will travel to Nashville, Tenn. for a three-game series against No. 7 Vanderbilt, March 28-30. First pitch on Thursday is slated for 6 p.m.
