Mizzou pitcher earns SEC Co-Freshman of the Week honors
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Mizzou pitcher Marissa McCann earned her first-career conference honors on Tuesday afternoon, as the SEC named her the Co-Freshman of the Week.
The recognition comes on the heels of MU's 2-1 series win over then No. 2/3 LSU over the weekend. She went 2-0 on the weekend, coming in in relief for both Laurin Krings and Cierra Harrison on Friday and Saturday. In those outings, she pitched 6.2 innings of shutout softball, allowing just four hits.
In game one, she threw 2.2 scoreless innings with one strikeout. She allowed one hit and four walks in the game that marked her first-career SEC win.
The Arizona-native followed up that performance with four shutout innings out of the pen on Saturday. McCann allowed just three hits and a walk for back-to-back wins in the circle.
McCann has made an early impact for head coach Larissa Anderson in her debut campaign. She's made a total of 10 appearances, with four starts, in her freshman season. Overall, she's complied 19 strikeouts and a 4-1 overall record, along with one save, over 31 innings pitched.
Up next - McCann and the Tigers will spend the week on the road over on the East Coast for spring break. Mizzou is in action against Fordham and Hofstra on Tuesday, followed by a match up with George Mason on Thursday.
