No. 15 Mizzou softball topples No. 2 LSU in series opener
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The No. 15 Mizzou softball team took a one game advantage over No. 2 LSU on Friday in a high-scoring affair. The hometown Tigers toppled the Baton Rouge Tigers 10-9 at the Mizzou Softball Stadium.
Centerfielder Alex Honnold led the charge at the plate for MU. She went 2-for-4 and registered a team-high four RBI. Catcher Julia Crenshaw and designated player Katie Chester were right behind her with two RBIs apiece. Third baseman Kara Daly and first baseman Madison Walker each registered one RBI.
Walker's one RBI was a pretty important one, too. Mizzou and LSU were tied up at nine in the sixth inning, when the first baseman belted a single to right field, which brought home Maddie Gallagher, to take the one-run lead.
Freshman pitcher Marissa McCann earned the win in the circle, after she came in in relief for senior ace Laurin Krings.
Krings allowed nine earned runs in the first three innings of action, however, the combo of McCann and closer Taylor Pannell did not allow another LSU runner across home plate.
With the win, McCann improved to 3-1 overall in 2024. Meanwhile, Pannell's save is her fifth of the season.
