Mizzou’s O’Toole wins Big 12 title at 165; team records fourth place finish
TULSA, Okla. (KMIZ)
Mizzou wrestling came up with a fourth place finish at the 2024 Big 12 Championships, on Sunday, with a total of 115.5 points. MU totaled nine automatic qualifiers for the NCAA Championship on March 21-23 in Kansas City.

Two Tiger wrestlers competed in the conference finals, with junior Keegan O'Toole coming out with the lone Big 12 title for head coach Brian Smith's group.
In a highly anticipated bout, O'Toole faced Iowa State's David Carr for the fourth time in his career. The Mizzou standout earned the 8-2 decision and the 165 pound conference championship, on Sunday.
Meanwhile, at 197 pounds, his teammate Rocky Elam fell in a low scoring, 1-0 decision loss to South Dakota State's Tanner Sloan. Elam finished second in the conference in his weight class.
To start the day in Tulsa, seven wrestlers were active in the medal round. Surtin and Gioffre both took medical forfeit losses. Edmond wrestled his way to an upset at 141 pounds to capture third place. Mauller and Hawks both finished in fifth place in the Big 12 tournament. Finally, Elam brought home his fifth-consecutive third place trophy.
Up next - Smith and company will head to the NCAA Championship on March 21-23 in Kansas City. The first session begins at 11 a.m. on March 21.
