Mizzou baseball ties series with Purdue Fort Wayne in run rule fashion
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Mizzou baseball team avoided taking its second-straight series loss, on Sunday, with a 20-2, run rule win over Purdue Fort Wayne. The Tigers and the Mastodons ended the series in a 2-2 tie.
Head coach Kerrick Jackson's team ended with a season-high 19 hits in the dominating win over Purdue Fort Wayne. MU took control early, putting up eight runs in the second inning. That offensive explosion was highlighted by Matt Garcia's two-run single, as the senior went 3-for-5 with three RBI. Along with Garcia, Brock Daniels and Isaiah Frost led the team with three RBI apiece.
All 13 of Mizzou's hitters registered a hit against the Mastodons, on Sunday. Garcia and Kaden Peer led the team with three hits apiece.
Three Tigers hits home runs, as well. Helias alum Trevor Austin, Daniels and Jackson Lovich all sent one over the fence. Austin's homer was his fourth of the season.
Logan Lunceford held things down on the bump, throwing five innings of shutout baseball at Taylor Stadium. He ended the day with his first win of the season, as he struck out one batter and allowed just three hits.
Up next - Mizzou will hit the road for five games. First, Jackson company will face rival Kansas on Tuesday, March 12 at 6 p.m. Then, the Tigers will face another rival in Fayetteville. MU and Arkansas will start the three-game series on Friday, March 15 at 6:30 p.m.
