Columbia College wins third-straight AMC title, making conference history
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Cougars did it again.
The Columbia College women's basketball team is no stranger to cutting down nets at the Southwell Complex. In fact, the team had done it two-straight years heading into Monday night's AMC Championship game against Williams Baptist University. With a comeback from 15 points down in the first half, head coach James Arnold and his team whipped out the scissors, once again.
The Cougars topped the Eagles of Williams Baptist 79-66, on Monday. It was a win that didn't come easy, by any means. WBU came out hot, leading the first-seeded Cougars by 15 points at one point in the first half.
Williams Baptist took a 10-point lead into halftime, but the Columbia College made some adjustments for a second half comeback.
CC limited turnovers and turned up the heat on offense. Mallory Shetley had six points in the first two quarters of action, but rang off 17 of her game-high 23 total points in the final two quarters. She was one of four Cougars who got into double-digit scoring in the win.
South Callaway alum Delaney Horstman (16), Allison Stiers (12) and Tipton alum Abby Backes (11) all made major second half contributions, as well.
Up next - Columbia College will prepare for the NAIA Tournament. The 64-team field and bracket will be announced on Thursday, March 7 at 7 p.m.
