14-run first inning helps lift Mizzou to Kerrick Jackson’s first home win

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Mizzou baseball team absolutely demolished Northern Kentucky, in run-rule fashion, 28-10 in game two of a three-game set. With the win, the Tigers and the Norse will head to a rubber match on Sunday.

Coming into Saturday's win, head coach Kerrick Jackson's group only averaged about four runs per game. However, the group shattered that average with 28 runs driven in on 16 hits. Eight MU players sent runners across home plate, with Jackson Beaman leading the charge with a team-high seven RBI, going 3-for-3 at the dish.

Beaman and Jackson Lovich both hit home runs in the Tigers' big first inning. Lovich finished the day going 2-for-4 with four RBI.

Right-handed pitcher Carter Rustad earned the win on the mound, as he went four innings with one strikeout and two earned runs allowed. The rest of the Mizzou pitching staff combined for two more strikeouts.

The win against Northern Kentucky is also Coach Jackson's first at Taylor Stadium in his Tiger tenure. His group is now 5-5 on the season.

Up next - Mizzou and the Norse will play for the series win on Sunday at Taylor Stadium. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
