No. 14 Mizzou softball goes 5-0 in weekend tournament to remain undefeated

DENTON, Texas. (KMIZ)

The No. 14 Mizzou softball team is still undefeated to start the 2024 season, following a 5-0 campaign at the Tracy Beard College Classic over the weekend. The Tigers rounded out the perfect weekend with a run-rule win over North Texas, on Sunday.

Head coach Larissa Anderson and company are now 10-0, which is the best start since the Tigers opened up the 2009 campaign 12-0 en route to a 50-12 finish.

Sunday's game started as a pitcher's duel, with Laurin Krings helping keep the first two frames scoreless. However, the offensive onslaught came soon after.

Jenna Laird, Alex Honnold, Julia Crenshaw, Kara Daly and Maddie Gallagher all registered at least one RBI in the win. However, the highlight of the afternoon came off of the bat of Katie Chester. The sophomore hit her first-career grand slam to increase Mizzou's edge to an 11-run lead.

In the circle, Laurin Krings improved to 5-0 allowing just a walk with three strikeouts.

Up next - Mizzou will head to the west coast for the 2024 Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic on Thursday, Feb. 22 through Saturday, Feb. 24. The Tigers will face San Diego State, Wisconsin, Central Florida, California State Fullerton and Baylor during the tournament.
