Hallsville football introduces new head coach

Hallsville High School

The Hallsville football team has its new leader. Former Boonville associate head coach Paul Stevens will take the helm of Indian football for the 2024 season, after former head coach Justin Conyers took the open coaching position at Hickman High School.

Stevens will come to Hallsville with quite a bit of coaching experience. He has been the associate head coach at Boonville since 2018, but, before that, also served as the defensive coordinator at Marceline High School. He also helped spearhead strength and conditioning programs, which emphasized evaluation and injury prevention.

In a statement from the school district, incoming Hallsville Activities Director Ryan Richardson said, “Coach Stevens brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our team, particularly in strength and conditioning and the offensive line. With his expertise, we are confident that our students will continue to excel on and off the field. Welcome, Coach Stevens, to our Hallsville family."

The Indians finished the 2023 season 4-6 overall, falling to Centralia in the first round of the district tournament. In the five years that Conyers was at the helm of the program, he coached Hallsville to a 37-21 overall record, winning two district championships.

However, a new era of Indian football will begin this year. Stevens said, in a statement, that he is thrilled to be joining the Hallsville community as their new head football coach.

“I have always held a deep respect for Hallsville School District and the unwavering support of its community," he said. "The consistent praise surrounding this district speaks volumes about its dedication to excellence.”
