Reid takes podium following Super Bowl LVIII Opening Night, provides injury updates

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (KMIZ)

After Monday's Super Bowl LVIII Opening Night festivities, Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs took the stage to preview its matchup with San Francisco.

During Tuesday's press conference, Reid provided some injury updates on Joe Thuney and Jerick McKinnon. Reid said the concern with their All-Pro offensive guard is his strength because the team does not want Thuney to worsen his pectoral injury, and he called it a "long shot" that Thuney would practice. Reid also said McKinnon is not practicing, and there's only a slim chance that he will play on Sunday.

Reid also highlighted the importance of his team staying focused during a busy Super Bowl week, especially the first-timers who haven't experienced this game and its obligations before.

"There's a lot of hoopla that goes on with the game and everybody patting you on the back, and all of that's great but you still got to practice," Reid said. "We go over to the field every day make sure we get our work done, take care of your diet, the players do that, and rest becomes important, so you try to keep them in a routine the best way you possibly can."

In Sunday's game, Reid will be facing San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan, who led the 49ers to a 12-5 regular season record and the top seed in the NFC playoffs. These two coaches faced each other in Super Bowl LIV just four seasons ago. Reid has a lot of respect for the culture Shanahan has built on the west coast.

"It's an honor to be able to go against him. I think he is one of the top coaches in the National Football League. This isn't just a one year thing for him. He's been doing this now for awhile, so I have a ton of respect for him," Reid said.

ABC 17 Sports Director Nathalie Jones and Lucas Geisler will be in Las Vegas providing live coverage, starting on Wednesday night. Kickoff at Super Bowl LVIII between the Chiefs and 49ers is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Sunday.
