Contract details: new Mizzou defensive coordinator set to make $1 million per year over three seasons

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Just days after longtime college football assistant Corey Batoon got introduced as Mizzou's new defensive coordinator, the details are out on the contract he signed with MU.

He is set to earn $1 million per year over the course of three seasons in Columbia, according to details obtained through an open records request. The former South Alabama defensive coordinator's contract also includes several incentives of up to $75,000. You can find all of those incentives in the list below.

  • Academic achievement - $10,000
  • 10 wins - $5,000

  • 12 or more wins - $15,000

As for his buyout with the university, if Batoon decided to leave before the end of May, he would owe Mizzou $3 million. However, the cost goes down from there. If he left before the end of 2024, it would be $800,000 and leaving in 2025 would cost him $600,000. If he made it to the final year of his contract, he would owe the university $400,000,

Batoon's contract officially expires in Jan. of 2027.

In comparison to offensive coordinator Kirby Moore, Batoon will not be making too much less. Moore's most recent contract extension put him at $1.2 million for his second season in Columbia.

Batoon joined head coach Eli Drinkwitz' staff after former defensive coordinator Blake Baker left for the same job at LSU. It took a few weeks to find a replacement, but Batoon will bring quite a bit of experience to the coaching staff, as he made stops at South Alabama, Liberty, Hawaii, Florida Atlantic and Mississippi over the course of his 32-year career.
