Mizzou gymnastics holds on to No. 9 ranking

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Mizzou gymnastics team held steady at No. 9 in the Road to Nationals rankings, on Monday. The program's second straight week in the top-10 comes after a historic weekend at the Hearnes Center.

The Tigers knocked off No. 3 LSU, on Friday, which is the highest ranked win in program history. Head coach Shannon Welker and company also did it in front of a record-breaking crowd, made up of 7,336 fans. In the win, the MU squad produced eight routines with a score better than 9.9, including five on floor, as the Tigers picked up their third consecutive home win over a top-five team.

It's the third time in four weeks that Mizzou is among the top-10 teams in the nation, as the group averages a score of 197.088 in 2024. That marks the highest averaged through four meets in program history.

In the event rankings, Mizzou comes in a No. 5 on the vault, after posting the team's second-best score in program history on that apparatus against LSU. The Tigers also jumped to No. 6 on the floor and got bumped up three spots on the bars, coming in a No. 16. Mizzou also checked in a No. 15 on the beam.

MU also has some competitors ranked, individually, in the top-25, as well. You can find a full list below.

  • Jocelyn Moore: No. 7 on floor | No. 9 on vault
  • Hannah Horton: tied No. 24 on vault
  • Amari Celestine: tied No. 24 on vault

Up next - Mizzou will get a short break from conference action, as the team will travel south to face Texas Women's University on Saturday afternoon in Denton, Texas. The meet is set to start at 6 p.m.
