Chiefs punch ticket to fourth Super Bowl in five years with win in Baltimore
BALTIMORE, Md. (KMIZ)
For the second straight season and fourth time in five years, the Kansas City Chiefs will play for a Lombardi Trophy. The reigning Super Bowl champions captured a 17-10 AFC Championship win against the Ravens, on Sunday, to punch that Super Bowl ticket.
Head coach Andy Reid and the Chiefs will look to be the first team since the 2003 and 2004 New England Patriots to win back-to-back Super Bowls.
With the win, in his years a starter, quarterback Patrick Mahomes has only missed two Super Bowls, appearing in 2020, 2021, 2023 and now 2024. In the win against Baltimore, Mahomes completed 76 percent of his passes for 241 yards and one touchdown.
His top target was veteran tight end Travis Kelce, who tallied 116 yards on 11 receptions, scoring one touchdown. Kelce also made some history, on Sunday, as he passed up Jerry Rice's postseason receptions record, with his 152nd catch in the game against the Ravens.
The Kansas City defense, once again, stood tall in the postseason. The Chiefs only allowed one touchdown, with linebacker Drue Tranquill leading the group with eight total tackles.
Safety Justin Reid, defensive tackle Tershawn Wharton and defensive ends George KarlaftisCharles Omenihu each registered a sack on Lamar Jackson. On the flip side, Mahomes only got touched one time, taking a sack late in the second half.
Kansas City will face the winner of the NFC Championship game between the Detroit Lions and the San Francisco 49ers. That game will kick off at 5:30 p.m. on Fox 22.
