No. 12 Mizzou gymnastics captures first conference win of season
ATHENS, Ga. (KMIZ)
No. 12 Mizzou gymnastics got into the SEC win column with a 197.400-197.050 win over No. 20 Georgia in Athens, on Saturday. With the win, MU improved to 4-, overall, in 2024.
Two performances stood out among the rest for head coach Shannon Welker's group. Senior Mara Tirasolej and and graduate Sienna Schreiber each earned a 9.975 in an event. Tirasolej's 9.975 on the bars is the best individual score that a Tiger has ever scoreed on that apparatus. Meanwhile, Schreiber matched her career-best on her go-to apparatus, on the beam, as she captured her third beam title of the season.
Junior Jocelyn Moore won the vault title in Georgia, on Saturday, as well. It is already her second vault title of 2024, as she recorded a 9.950.
However, it was a well-rounded performance for Welker and company. Saturday marked the first time since the 2023 SEC Championship that MU posted at least a 9.9 on all four rotations.
Up next - Mizzou will return to the Hearnes Center for action against No. 8 LSU on Friday, Jan. 26. The meet is slated to start at 7:30 p.m.
