No. 2 Mizzou wrestling tops No. 11 Virginia Tech in comeback fashion

COLUBMIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The No. 2 Mizzou wrestling team rallied back from a six-point deficit to defeat No. 11 Virginia Tech, 22-17, and also remain undefeated in the 2023-24 season, on Tuesday night.

The Tigers lost four out of the first five matches in the Top-11 dual at the Hearnes Center. That lone win came in the form of a massive upset from redshirt freshman Kade Moore, as he pinned the No. 5 ranked wrestler and two-time All-American in the 133 class.

After the intermission, however, it was a change of pace for Mizzou. The regining national champion and No. 1 ranked wrestler at 165, Keegan O'Toole, continued his dominant season with a win by tech fall. O'Toole's win was followed by another MU loss, but No. 9 Clayton Whiting really started the rally at 184.

Whiting downed Dakota Howard in an 11-3 major decision, on Tuesday. Then, the Elam brothers sealed the deal. No. 6 Rocky Elam pitched a shutout against No. 21 Andy Smith, 11-0, and No. 6 Zach Elam won comfortably, 8-1, over No. 20 Hunter Catka.
