KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Kansas City Chiefs did not come out with a Christmas Day win over Las Vegas, on Monday. The Raiders topped KC in rivalry action, 20-14, which dropped the Chiefs to 9-6 overall, in 2023.

It was another lackluster performance for the Kansas City offense, which included a costly Patrick Mahomes pick six. Mahomes and company only found end zone twice against Vegas, once in the first quarter courtesy of Isiah Pacheco and again with less than three minutes left in the game courtesy of pass from Mahomes to Justin Watson.

Those 14 points were not enough against the Raiders, despite a big showing from the Chiefs' defense. Las Vegas quarterback Aidan O'Connell only completed 42 percent of his passes for 62 yards; in fact, O'Connell didn't complete a single pass after the first quarter. However, as a result, it was the rival Raiders' defense that stepped up big at Arrowhead Stadium.

The first time Vegas found end zone was on an eight-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown, after Mahomes botched the handoff to Pacheco and defensive lineman Bilal Nichols scooped it up for the score. Then, in the same quarter, Mahomes threw an interception, which was returned 33 yards by cornerback Jack Jones for a touchdown.

Kanas City has now lost five of its last eight games, sitting third place in the AFC.

Up next - the Chiefs will play their second-to-last regular season game of 2023 on Sunday, Dec. 31. New Year's Eve kickoff against the Cincinnati Bengals is set for 3:25 p.m. at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
