Mizzou hoops will look to bounce back in Kansas City meeting with Seton Hall

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Mizzou men's basketball team will look to get back in the win column, on Sunday, as the team will make trip down I-70 to meet Seton Hall at the T-Mobile Center, in Kansas City.

Head coach Dennis Gates and company will head into that game off of a loss to then-No. 2 Kansas at Allen Fieldhouse, on Saturday. The Tigers kept it a close game, overall, but the middle 10 minutes of action were the eventual killer.

"We let one get away, there's no doubt about it," Gates said. "Just dialing in on the details, we got to get a balance of everything. We got to shoot more than zero free throws in the first half, first and foremost. We got to be able to close out halves the way that we need to give ourselves a chance. Now, I'm excited about what we did in the second half. We won the second half, but that first half, the middle 10 minutes of the game, I want to be able to concentrate in a different area of execution, but also managing the basketball game."

MU will look to get those things corrected against a good Seton Hall team, in Kansas City. The Pirates will be a part of a much more difficult stretch of non-conference games that Gates scheduled for his second season at the helm of Tiger basketball. The location is also an important piece of it too, though.

Gates said that extending the action to the Kansas City-area was important to him in planning this offseason. Mizzou has an annual game in St. Louis, against Illinois, but is working to get that kind of game going in KC, as well.

"We played [in Kansas City] 18 times from 2007-2019, but none in the last four years, so being able to get there this season is very important. We also want to have future games there and we will have future games there, non-conference against Kansas will be in the same venue, I believe," Gates said. "We just need our fans to be able to show up."

The Kansas City-based game will be a homecoming for two players on the Tiger roster, although both are from the Kansas side of the border. Mizzou forward Aidan Shaw hails from Overland Park, while guard Tamar Bates is from Kanas City, Kansas.

"I'm excited to go back to my hometown," Shaw said. "Going to KC and being able to see familiar faces in the crowd will be nice. I'm getting my family to come out to the game, getting as many tickets as I can to them. Yeah, I'm excited."
