St. Louis Blues fire head coach Craig Berube hours after loss to Detroit
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMIZ)
The St. Louis Blues will be looking for a new leader, after firing former head coach Craig Berube just hours after a 6-4 loss to the Detroit Red Wings, on Tuesday night.
Until the club finds a new coach, St. Louis' AHL affiliate coach Drew Bannister will step into the interim role. The Blues said that he will use Wednesday as a travel day to St. Louis and then serve his first game behind the bench on Thursday, when the Blues host the Senators at the Enterprise Center.
Berube was in the midst of a three-year contract, which ran through the 2024-25 season.
In his time with the Note, he led the club to its first Stanley Cup in franchise history in the 2018-19 campagin. The 57-year-old was in his sixth season behind the bench and went 206-132-44 overall in that time span. His Blues teams made the playoffs the next three seasons after that Stanley Cup win, however, only won one of those series. St. Louis missed the postseason in the 2022-23 campaign.
The Blues dropped to 13-14-1 with the Tuesday night loss to the Red Wings, despite having the lead at three different points throughout the game. The loss also extended the club's losing streak to four games.
Up next - St. Louis will try to snap that four-game skid under an interim head coach, as the Ottawa Senators will be in the Gateway City on Thursday, Dec. 14. Puck will drop at 7:00 p.m.
