Chris Jones agrees to new one-year contract with Chiefs
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Kansas City Chiefs have finally settled on a new one-year deal with star defensive tackle Chris Jones. The team made the announcement on Monday, following an offseason's long holdout by Jones.
"Chris is an elite player in this league, and over the last seven years, he's really developed into a leader on our team," general manager Brett Veach said in a press release. "He's been instrumental to our success and Super Bowl championship runs and it was a priority for us to keep him in a Chiefs uniform."
The end of Jones' holdout came after KC was forced to put him on the reserve/did not report list on Aug. 29's roster deadline. The defensive tackled racked up $50,000 in fines for each day he missed of training camp in St. Joe and he also missed out on about a one million dollar pay check for week one against Detroit.
Jones has started in 86 games for Kansas City, through his seven seasons in the NFL. He has tallied 243 tackles, 65 sacks, 65 tackles for loss and 146 pressures. Jones also has two interceptions, one pick six, 12 forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. Jones also has two postseason sacks, both of which came in the 2022 AFC Championship win against the Bengals.
The terms of the deal have not been made public.
