ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMIZ)

An effective game from pitcher Zack Thompson and a home run from rookie Jordan Walker helped St. Louis to a 6-4 win over the Pirates on Sunday afternoon.

Thompson tossed seven innings for the Cardinals, allowing three earned runs on seven hits. He tallied six strikeouts, as well, as he improved to 4-5 on the season.

Walker continued his hot streak for STL. He hit a home run, a double and scored two runs in the win. His home run in the third inning gave the red birds a 3-1 lead over Pittsburgh. That home run was the 21-year-old's 14th of the season, which made him the ninth player since 2019 to reach 14 career home runs before the age of 22.

Nolan Gorman and Alec Burleson both tied for the team-high two RBI, as both plated runners in bases loaded situations.

Up next - The Cardinals will hit the road to meet the Braves in Atlanta. First pitch is set for 6:20 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 5.
