TAMPA BAY, Fl. (KMIZ)

Matthew Liberatore found his groove on the hill Thursday throwing eight scoreless innings to power the St. Louis Cardinals to a 5-2 win over the Tampa Bay Rays.

The victory marks a 2-1 series win for the Red Birds.

Liberatore allowed just two hits in his eight scoreless frames in the circle, not to mention picking up seven strikeouts in the outing.

Andrew Knizner was the leading force at the plate going 2-for-4 with two RBI's. Alec Burleson and Tommy Edman both each drove in a run.

With the series victory, the Cardinals still sit at the bottom of the NL Central division with a 51-65 record.

Up next - the group will head to Kansas City for the battle of I-70 against the Royals. Game one of the two-game series is set for Friday at 7:10 p.m.
