Royals lose series to Phillies on heels of snapping a seven-game win streak
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (KMIZ)
Home runs off the bats of Bryson Stott, Kyle Schwarber and Nick Castellanos sealed the series loss for the Kansas City Royals on Sunday afternoon. The Phillies topped KC 8-4 in the rubber match.
Despite the loss, Kansas City had no shortage of offense to start the game. MJ Melendez hit a home run, while Michael Massey, Matt Beaty and Drew Waters all brought in runners. The Royals were up by three runs in the first inning, however, Stout's homer put Philadelphia back in it with a tie game.
Pitcher Zack Greinke struggled on the hill for KC. He pitched for four innings, allowing five earned runs on seven hits with four strikeouts. Ultimately, the five hits he let up sealed the deal for Kansas City.
The series loss to the Phillies came on the heels of a historic, seven-game win streak for the Royals. The club won the series opener in the city of brotherly love to get to that seven-game mark, but dropped the second game of the series to snap it. The win streak was the first time a sub-.300 club has had that kind of streak since 1907.
Up next - Kansas City will stay on the east coast to meet the Boston Red Sox on Monday night. The two teams will throw out the first pitch at 6:10 p.m. at Fenway Park.
