KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Ryan Yarbrough gave up one run over seven innings and the Kansas City Royals completed the first series sweep of the season with a 2-1 win over the Minnesota Twins.

It’s the first sweep by the Royals since last September, which was also against Minnesota.

Freddy Fermin hit a home run and Maikel Garcia had an RBI double to drive in the only two runs of the day in the low-scoring affair.

Yarbrough had his best start of the season going seven innings, allowing one earned run and giving up seven hits while fanning five.

Also on Sunday, the Atlanta Braves added veteran infielder Nicky Lopez in a trade with the Royals. In exchange, Kansas City gained left-handed pitcher Taylor Hearn.

Up next - the Royals will take Monday to rest before returning to Kauffman Stadium Tuesday at 7:10 p.m. against the New York Mets.
