Five home runs lift Cardinals to series win against Diamondbacks
PHOENIX, Ariz. (KMIZ)
Home runs off the bats of four Cardinals was enough to lift the club to an 11-7 win against the Diamondbacks, on Wednesday. The victory secured the series win for St. Louis, as well.
Nolan Gorman, Paul Goldschmidt, Lars Nootbar and Andrew Knizer all knocked one over the fence in the series finale at Chase Field. Gorman, by far, had the best day at the plate, as he hit two home runs and went 3-for-5.
Brendan Donovan stole home for the second-straight game in the third inning. It's just the third time anyone from the club has stolen home in 2023.
The offensive outing was a drastic change from Tuesday night, when St. Louis only mustered one run in a 3-1 loss to Arizona.
Pitcher Jack Flaherty got the start on the hill and finished with an overall solid outing. He tossed for five innings with four strikeouts and allowed three earned runs on eight hits. Andre Pallante and Giovanny Gallegos looked solid in relief, as the duo allowed just one run to get across the plate.
Up next - the Cardinals will return home to host the Chicago Cubs. First pitch is scheduled for 6:45 p.m. on Thursday, July 27 at Busch Stadium.
