Mizzou newcomers that could make an impact during first year in the black and gold
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
After a 6-7 record in 2022, the Mizzou football team will have plenty of new faces to make an impact in 2023. With nearly 9,000 athletes in the transfer portal to choose from, Eli Drinkwitz and company added some much needed depth this offseason.
Last year's quarterback battle between Brady Cook and Sam Horn now has another name added to the mix in Miami transfer Jake Garcia.
"I think he's done a really good job in terms of extending plays," said offensive coordinator Kibry Moore. "His eyes are in the right spot and I thought he did a really good job in terms of the live situations."
The offseason was also good for Jacob Peeler's wide receiver room. As star wideout Luther Burden enters year two at Mizzou, there's some other weapons surrounding him.
"You bring in a player like a Theo Wease, who is an older guy and has played a lot of football," Peeler said.
Wease comes to MU from Oklahoma where he topped 1,000 yards last season with ten scores.
During spring camp, Drinkwitz also shouted out transfer Triston Newson and incoming freshman Jahkai Lang.
