Mizzou third baseman gets drafted in 14th round to Oakland

OAKLAND, Calif. (KMIZ)

Mizzou baseball standout Luke Mann heard his name called in the 2023 MLB Draft on Tuesday afternoon. The Oakland Athletics drafted Mann with the No. 406 overall pick in the 14th round.

The St. Louis native came back for his fifth season in the black and gold in 2023 and what a season it was. Mann tied for the No. 1 spot on Mizzou's all-time career home run list, with 49. He batted .311 in 2023, with a team-high 21 home runs and 54 RBI.

The third baseman had tried his hand in the MLB Draft in 2022. He had just had a solid season for the Tiger, batting .270 with 17 home runs and registering 43 RBI, however, more than 600 selections later, his name was never called.

Mann got even better in his final season with MU, as he hit four more home runs and rang in 11 more RBI.

He finished his time in Columbia as the second Tiger infielder to earn All-Conference honors in his final season. He also hit the honor roll every year.

The Vianney High School alum also had a standout prep career. He won the 2018 Missouri Gatorade Player of the Year, 2018 USA Today Second-Team All-American, 2018 MaxPreps First-Team All-American and many more accolades. He led the Griffons to a 2018 Class 5 state championship in 2018 and earned a top 10 team national ranking, as well.
