Royals lose sixth-straight series; now 34 games below .500
DETROIT, Mich. (KMIZ)
The Kansas City Royals have not won a series since the middle of May and that trend continued on Wednesday afternoon. The Detroit Tigers secured a series win with a 9-4 victory at Comerica Park.
The Royals got off to a two-run lead in the second inning, however, the Tiger offense heated up from there. Detroit's Zack Short homered and drove in two runs, while Javier Baez registered his 1,000th career hit in the five-run win.
KC pitcher Brady Singer went deep into Wednesday's match up, going a full seven innings. In that time, he allowed five earned run son seven hits, along with recording two strikeouts. Singer is handed the loss to fall to 4-7 on the season.
Skipper Matt Quatraro and company won game two, 1-0, in a strong pitching performance from Daniel Lynch. If Kansas City could have held on to its four-run lead in game one, it would have been the club's third series win of the 2023 season.
With the loss to Detroit, Kansas City dropped to 20-53 this season, coming in as the second worst team in all of Major League Baseball.
