Mizzou pitcher returning to Columbia after entering transfer portal

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Mizzou pitcher Logan Lunceford announced that he will be returning to Mizzou for the 2024 season, despite entering his name into the transfer portal at the beginning of June.

Lunceford was one of three key pitchers to enter the portal after MU fired former head coach Steve Bieser. Chandler Murphy and Austin Troesser were the other two pitchers, but they have not announced their plans yet.

Since Bieser was fired, Mizzou has since hired former Memphis head coach Kerrick Jackson to lead the program. Locking down Lunceford is a win for Jackson in his first few weeks at the helm.

Lunceford just completed his freshman season, where he started in 11 games and made two relief appearances. He finished the 2023 season with a 6.00 ERA and a 3-5 record. He struck out 68 batters through 54 total innings.

The pitcher came to Mizzou from Edmond, Okla. In high school he ranked as the No. 2 right-handed pitcher and the No. 6 overall prospect in Oklahoma's 2022 class by Perfect Game. Lunceford helped lead his team to a Class 6A state championship in 2019 and made it back to that same title game in 2022.
