Mizzou’s Phil Pressey set to join Celtics staff
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Former Mizzou hoops standout Phil Pressey is the latest former Celtics player to join head coach Joe Mazzulla's staff in Boston. The move up to an NBA coaching staff comes after Pressey spent the last year on MU head coach Dennis Gates' staff.
The news was first reported by the Boston Globe's Adam Himmelsbach on Monday morning. Pressey also shared multiple releases of the news on his social media pages.
It will not be the 32-year-old's first stop in the NBA, as Pressey joined the Celtics as an undrafted rookie in 2013. In his two years in Boston, he played in 125 games. He also spent part of his professional career playing in Philadelphia and Phoenix.
Pressey returned to Columbia in June of 2022, as he worked as a graduate assistant for Gates as the head coach was entering his first year at the helm of Tiger hoops. The team went on to have a historic year. The Tigers more than doubled the win total from the previous season, going 25-10 overall. Mizzou also reached the program's first-ever SEC Tournament semifinal and won its first NCAA Tournament game in 13 years.
Pressey was no stranger to finding success at Mizzou Arena. As a player, he finished his career as the program's all-time leader in assists and tied Anthony Peeler for the career lead in steals. He was also MU's first player to ever earn First Team All-SEC accolades.
