Cardinals avoid getting swept in Texas
ARLINGTON, Texas. (KMIZ)
The St. Louis Cardinals snapped a five-game skid on Wednesday night, with a 1-0 win against the Texas Rangers.
Despite the win, the birds are still on 8.5 games out of first place in the National League's central division. With a 26-37 record through the first 63 games, skipper Oli Marmol and company have the fourth-worst record in Major League Baseball.
On a positive note, it was a strong outing for Jack Flaherty on the hill. He threw for six innings in the shutout win, recording eight strikeouts and allowing just three hits. The win is attributed to Jordan Hicks, who came in in relief for one inning. He tallied one strikeout.
Offensively, all it took was a home run off the bat of Alec Burleson in the eighth inning to secure the win.
Up next - St. Louis will return to Busch Stadium to host the Cincinnati Reds on Friday, June 9. First pitch is at 7:15 p.m.
