Royals walk it off to avoid getting swept by Nationals
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
With two outs and a tie game at the bottom of the ninth inning, Kansas City's Michael Massey hit a single to score MJ Melendez and secure the 3-2 walk-off win against Washington.
It took a while for the Royals' offense to get going on Sunday, but it fired up in the seventh inning. Melendez hit a home run in that frame and then Edward Olivares homered in the eighth to tie the ball game up at two and set up for a walk-off win.
Daniel Lynch got the start on the bump for Kansas City. He lasted five innings and gave up the Nationals' two runs on five hits.
Scott Barlow earned the win on the hill, as he held off Washington in the ninth inning. He allowed no hits with one strikeout in the final frame.
Up next - the Royals will travel to St. Louis for some I-70 rivalry action. The Cardinals and KC will start up a two-game series at Busch Stadium on Monday, May 29 at 1:15 p.m.
