CLEVELAND, Ohio (KMIZ)

The St. Louis Cardinals were edged out in the series rubber match against the Cleveland Guardians on Sunday. Cleveland walked it off in the ninth inning to win 4-3.

Jose Ramirez hit a two-run double off of Cardinals relief pitcher Ryan Helsley to score two runs and lift the Guardians to the series win. The red birds had the 3-2 lead headed into the final frame, courtesy of solo home runs from Alec Burleson, Andrew Knizer and Paul Goldschmidt.

The loss is handed to Helsley, as he dropped to 3-4 overall in 2023. Starter Jordan Montgomery actually had a solid outing for St. Louis, despite the loss. He threw for five innings, allowing just two runs on seven hits. He also tallied three strikeouts.

Next up - St. Louis will return home to host the Kansas City Royals on Monday, May 29. First pitch is set for 1:15 p.m.
