CINCINNATI, Oh. (KMIZ)

The St. Louis Cardinals are walking away from a divisional series in Cincinnati with two wins and two losses, after avoiding the finale loss on Thursday 2-1.

With no days off this week, the Red Birds opting to rest Paul Goldschmidt, Nolan Arenado and Willson Contreras by leaving them out of the starting lineup for Thursday's game.

The finale was a low scoring affair with no runs on the board through seven innings. In the eighth, Nolan Gorman drove in the only run of the day, plus he stole home on a wild pitch to give them a two-score lead.

In the ninth, the Reds drove in one run, but Giovanny Gallegos picked up two strikeouts in the inning to secure the win. Miles Mikolas threw seven innings allowing just five hits and picking up five strikeouts.

The Cardinals sit at 23-29 on the season. Up next, their road trip to Ohio will continue Friday with a three-game series against the Guardians. Game one is set for Friday at 6:10 p.m.
