KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Despite getting within two runs in the late innings at Kauffman Stadium, the Kansas Royals lost to the Detroit Tigers, 6-4, in the series rubber match. With the loss, KC has lost two straight series and dropped to 15-36 on the season.

Riley Greene and Zach Short were too much for the Kansas City bullpen to handle on Wednesday night. Greene hit a home run, a double and and scored two times in the Tiger win, while Short hit a three-run homer in the sixth inning to break up the one-run, tie game and put Detroit on top for good.

Zack Greinke pitched five solid innings for the Royals, not allowing a hit until the fourth inning. That first hit was a doozy, as Greene lifted up a bohemith of a home run for the first score of the game. After that, Greinke allowed just one earned run on four hits with five strikeouts.

Things really went off the rails when relief entered the game. Josh Taylor tossed for one inning, but allowed Detroit to score three runs on three hits. He was charged with the loss, dropping his season record to 1-2.

Up next - skipper Matt Quatraro and company will have Thursday off, before hosting the Washington Nationals in a three-game series. First pitch on Friday is set for 7:10 p.m.
