Mizzou softball lands in Norman Regional in NCAA Tournament

COLUMBIA, Mo (KMIZ)

The Mizzou softball team will head to the NCAA Tournament, once again. MU is No. 3 seed in the Norman Regional and will face the Cal Bears in game one. The Tigers still have not missed an NCAA Tournament, every year it's been held, since 2006.

You can watch the full press conference with Mizzou softball coach Larissa Anderson, after her team's selection, in the video player below.

The Oklahoma Sooners are the No. 1 seed in the regional and will first meet MU head coach Larissa Anderson's old team, Hofstra, in their first game. The Sooners have won two-straight national championships headed into the 2023 NCAA Tournament.

The Tigers finished the season 34-24 overall and 7-17 in conference play. MU did win one game in the SEC Tournament, in Fayetteville, but did end up losing to No. 5-seeded Alabama in the first round. Anderson and company struggled to get going in conference play in 2023, as the final series of the regular season against then-No. 12 Arkansas was the group's first SEC series win of the year.

Regional play will begin on Friday, May 19 and run through Sunday, May 21. Friday's winner will square off in the first of three games on Saturday at 2 p.m., while the losing team will compete in an elimination game for game two of Saturday's triple header. The loser of Saturday's first contest will take on the winner of the day's second game in an elimination match up on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.

After all of that, the winner of Saturday's final game will go on to take on the winner of the day's first game on Sunday at 1 p.m. There will be an if-necessary game scheduled for later on Sunday.

The winner of the Norman Regional will advance to the Super Regional round against the winner of the Clemson Regional, which is hosted by 16-seeded Clemson, the following weekend.
