Luke Mann selected for weekly SEC and national honors
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Mizzou baseball standout Luke Mann hauled in the weekly awards after his offensive explosion in the first week of May. The Southeastern Conference pegged Mann as Co-Conference Player of the Week and Collegiate Baseball Newspaper named the third baseman as one its national players of the week.
Mann recorded a conference-best nine hits, five home runs and 27 total bases last week. His offensive effort helped the Tigers average about 12 runs per game, going 3-1 through the week. Mann will share the award with Ole Miss's Calvin Harris. Mizzou won the series against the Rebels, 2-1, at Taylor Stadium over the weekend.
The St. Louis native's big week started in a rivalry game with Kansas, on Tuesday. He matched his career-best four hits on May 2, doubling three times and lifting up a home run in the first inning. He followed up that performance with a two home run night in the series opening win against Ole Miss, on Friday. Although MU lost game two of the series, Mann homered for the third-straight game. He ended the week with a grand slam in the finale, which won the series for the Tigers.
Mann officially matched his single-season high for home runs, with 17 on the year. The third baseman, who bats a team-best .326 for the season, is now tied for No. 2 on Mizzou's career home runs list.
The senior isn't the only Tiger honored by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper in the 2023 season. His teammate Hank Zeisler was tabbed with the honor two times, so far, in Feb. and March.
Up next - Mann and Mizzou continues the final home stand of the season. The Tigers will close out Taylor Stadium for 2023 with a three-game series against Georgia, beginning on Friday, May 12. First pitch is at 6 p.m.
