Salvador Perez lifts Royals to a win in series finale
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Kansas City Royals avoided a series sweep from the Oakland Athletics with a 5-1 win on Sunday afternoon. The victory came courtesy of a strong offensive performance from catcher Salvador Perez.
Perez went 3-for-4 at the plate, scoring three times and hitting one home run. He came home on an RBI single from Maikel Garcia in the fourth inning and a Nick Pratto RBI double in the eighth.
Pitcher Ryan Yarbrough earned his first win of the 2023 season for KC. He went about five innings on the bump with two strikeouts and just one earned run allowed. Carlos Hernandez, Aroldis Chapman and Scott Barlow were effective in Sunday's relief, collectively allowing just one hit.
