ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMIZ)

The St. Louis Cardinals topped the Detroit Tigers with an offensive explosion, 12-6, to avoid a sweep in the final game of the series, on Sunday. The win also snapped the Red Birds' eight-game losing streak.

Paul Goldschmidt's bat brought the firepower at Busch Stadium on Sunday afternoon. He hit three home runs, going 4-for-5 at the plate with four RBI. Brendan Donovan also hit a three-run homer in the win.

Steven Matz earned the start on the hill for St. Louis. He had a solid outing with two strikeouts and one earned run allowed on five hits through five innings of action. However, JoJo Romero ended up earning the win to earn his first win of the season, 1-0.

With the win, St. Louis improved to 11-24 overall to start the 2023 season.

Up next - the Cardinals will hit the road to meet the rival Chicago Cubs in a three-game series at Wrigley Field. First pitch is slated for 6:40 p.m. on Monday, May 8.
