Mizzou baseball can’t complete comeback in finale with No. 4 Florida; second-straight SEC sweep

GAINESVILLE, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Mizzou baseball team fell just short of a series finale victory Sunday against No. 4 Florida falling 8-7 to the Gators. This marks the second-straight SEC series sweep for the Tigers after being blanked at home last weekend against Alabama.

In the series finale, the Tigers were working from behind early behind 5-1 going into the seventh inning. MU put up two runs in the seventh and four in the eighth , but the Gator bats didn't slow down being able to squeeze out the one-run victory.

Freshman Logan Lunceford got the start on the mound pitching five full innings allowing four runs on seven hits and recording three strikeouts. Rorik Maltrud gave up four runs in his one inning pitched, and Austin Troesser pitched two scoreless innings to end it.

At the plate, Trevor Austin went 2-for-5 with the only extra-base hit of the day for MU, plus brought in two RBI's. Matt Garcia also brought in two runs, plus Ross Lovich and Cam Chick each had one RBI.

With the loss, the Tigers sit at 24-19 on the season and 5-16 in SEC play.

Up next, the team hosts Kansas for a Border Showdown on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Taylor Stadium. The Tigers won the first matchup between the two 8-3 in March.
