Royals fall to the Angels in rubber match

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (KMIZ)

The Kansas City Royals continued a rough start to the season with a 4-3 loss to the Los Angeles Angles in the series rubber match on Sunday. With the loss, KC has lost eight of the last nine and 11 of the last 13 games.

Taylor Ward, Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani hit three-straight home runs off of Royals pitcher Jordan Lyles. The righty remained winless on the hill for Kansas City in 2023, going 0-4. Lyles pitched for six innings allowing four runs on four hits and tacking on five strikeouts.

The Royals offense had three homers of its own against LA, courtesy of Vinnie Pasquantino, MJ Melendez and Bobby Witt Jr., but it wasn't enough to overcome the Angels' lead.

Kansas City is 5-17, overall, on the season.

Up next - thee Royals will continue the road trip with a stop in Arizona to meet the Diamondbacks. First pitch in the series opener is at 8:40 p.m. on Monday, April 24.
