Mizzou baseball swept in home series versus Alabama

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Mizzou baseball team fell 3-2 in the series finale at Taylor Stadium Sunday for Alabama to complete the conference series sweep.

The finale game went five innings without a score from either side. Logan Lunceford was dominate to start on the mound for MU not giving up a single hit in five innings played, but that came to an end with a solo home run from the Crimson Tide in the sixth.

Mizzou managed to tie up the game in the bottom of the frame as Ty Wilsmeyer ripped a single and stole two bases to even it up. Alabama went on to score two more in the seventh and the Tigers bottom of the lineup couldn't get going to get back in it.

"I think we had three hits from our 7-8-9 batters all weekend and 50% punch outs down there," said head coach Steve Bieser. "We just got to get depth in our lineup where guys are going to compete down there. We tried to spark the lineup today with a few changes at the bottom, but we have to be better one through nine."

Wilsmeyer and Matt Garcia both with 2-for-4 in the outing tallying four of MU's five hits on the day. Battle alum Tre Morris drove in the second run with a sac fly.

Lunceford gave up two hits in his nearly seven innings pitched, but both were home runs. He also picked up seven strikeouts on the day. Zach Franklin pitched a hitless and scoreless two innings.

MU falls to 23-16 on the season and 5-13 in SEC play.

The Tigers will now have four away games starting Wednesday at 5 p.m. at SIUE.
