Mizzou softball squeezes out Border Showdown victory over Kansas
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Mizzou softball remains unbeaten in midweek action after a 4-3 win Wednesday evening in the Border Showdown over rival Kansas.
The Tigers got off to a hot start with a two-run home run from Alex Honnold and an RBI single from Maddie Gallagher in the first inning to give them an early three-run lead.
The Jayhawks slowly made their way back into it with a solo home run in the third from Haleigh Harper. Two KU runs were brought in during the top of the sixth, one drove in by Lyric Moore and the other by an error at short stop by Jenna Laird.
With the game tied going into the bottom of the sixth, with back to back doubles from Jefferson City's own Kara Daly and Julia Crenshaw, MU came away with the win.
On the mound, Jordan Weber pitched nearly six innings allowing three runs on six hits. Laurin Krings came in for relief allowing just one hit and picking up two strikeouts and freshman Taylor Pannell closed the game out with a K in the seventh.
Mizzou is now 26-20 on the season. Up next, the team continues the home stand with a three-game series against North Texas starting Friday at 6 p.m.
