Braves complete the series sweep against the Royals
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Kansas City Royals dropped to 4-12 to start the 2023 season with a 5-4 loss to the Atlanta Braves on Sunday afternoon. With the win, Atlanta completed a sweep against KC.
The Royals were within striking distance at multiple points in the loss. After getting down by three runs early, the Royals managed to tie the game up at four runs apiece in the seventh inning courtesy of a two-run homer from Vinnie Pasquantino.
However, in the ninth inning Atlanta's Vaughn Grissom hit a tie-breaking RBI single to seal the sweep for the Braves.
Kyle Wright gave the Royals some trouble, as he went 5 2/3 innings, allowing just two runs on four hits with six strikeouts. Conversely, Kansas City's Zack Greinke gave up four runs on four hits through six innings of work. He also tallied six strikeouts and a walk.
The loss dropped Kansas City to 1-9 at Kauffman Stadium, so far, this season. It was also Atlanta's first sweep against KC since 2010.
Up next - the Royals will stay home to host the Texas Rangers at Kauffman Stadium. First pitch in the opener is set for 6:40 p.m. on Monday, April 17.
