Mizzou offense lights up in series opening win against Ole Miss

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Mizzou softball team opened up the series against Ole Miss with an offensive explosion on Saturday afternoon. A five-run second inning helped lift the Tigers to an 8-3 win over Ole Miss.

Shortstop Jenna Laird started the scoring by sending two runners home with a beautiful rip down the right field line. But, third baseman Kara Daly stole the show with a three-run home run to go up 5-0. The three-run knock marks her eighth home run of the season. The Jefferson City native finished the day with a team-high four RBI.

The MU defense held up its end of the bargain, as well. The Rebels didn't get on the scoreboard until the fourth inning when Ole Miss hit a three-run homer.

Pitcher Jordan Weber went about four innings in the circle. She finished with one strikeout and three runs allowed on seven hits. Freshman Cierra Harrison closed out the win for the Tigers. She allowed no hits and no runs through two innings of work.

Up next - Mizzou will look to clinch the series win against Ole Miss on Sunday at 3 p.m. It would mark head coach Larissa Anderson and company's first SEC series win of the season.
