Mizzou baseball falls in series finale to No. 4 Vanderbilt
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Mizzou baseball team fell short of another upset against No. 4 Vanderbilt on Saturday afternoon. The Commodores shut out the Tigers in a 5-0 win to secure the 2-1 series victory.
Devin Futrell pitched lights out against MU. He went for about eight innings with six strikeouts and no runs allowed on five hits. The Mizzou bats never had an answer for him or his three other teammates that took the hill at Taylor Stadium.

Head coach Steve Bieser said the message to his group after the game is to just keep playing because they are very close to breaking through. However, he did add that they can't put up eight runs one day and then get shut out the next.
"I mean, this was an opportunity, this weekend, to win a series and at South Carolina I thought we had some very good opportunities to win series there," he said. "The reality is that we've played four SEC weekends and we played four of the top teams in the country. Not just any SEC, like these are really good programs."
Bieser and company handed the Commodores the team's first SEC loss of the season in Friday night's game. Matt Garcia walked that one off in the ninth innings to grab a 5-4 win. However, the same heroics did not emerge on Saturday.
With the loss, MU drops to 20-11 overall and 4-8 in conference play.
Up next - Mizzou will travel to Springfield to take on Missouri State in midweek action on Wednesday, April 11 at 6:30 p.m. Then, the team will continue the road trip to College Station to meet Texas A&M. First pitch on Thursday, April 13 is at 7 p.m.
